\n“The 2021 TrotteVieille is the first vintage vinified in the new facility, using 25vats for 11,5 hectares that Frederic Cast\u00e9ja told me allowed them more flexibility to pick exactly when they wanted. Matured entirely in new oak plus a couple of amphorae, it has a very detailed bouquet of blackberry, raspberry and a hint of licorice and crushed stone. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, certainly more detailed than previous vintages, and quite saline in the mouth, with a persistent finish. Classic in style, it has the tension to repay long-term cellaring. It may well end up at the top of my banded score.”<\/em><\/p>\n

\n“A bright pink rim to the wine with beautiful florality as well as sweet red and black cherry notes on the nose – so expressive. Succulent and sharp, this is piercing at first, gorgeous crystalline cherry flavours that then settle quite a lot to reveal the chalky, crushed stone minerality that coats the tongue and cheeks with the spice from the Cabernet Franc coming through – clove, cedar, tobacco, dark chocolate – a bitterness to counter the sharp fruit. I like the mouthfeel, the tannins are softly plush and so integrated giving excellent structure and support. The darker more savoury elements take over towards the finish but this has good typicity and freshness. A serious take on the vintage with impressive detail, broad shoulders, well-wrapped tannins, a deft touch of oak and a core of juicy fruit. Sure to have a long life ahead. \nFr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Cast\u00e9ja, propri\u00e9taire : “De grands changements cette ann\u00e9e. On a gard\u00e9 les murs et on a enti\u00e8rement refait l’int\u00e9rieur. Le chai \u00e0 barriques est enterr\u00e9 dans la roche calcaire. A c\u00f4t\u00e9, une salle de d\u00e9gustation et une salle de r\u00e9ception. Le cuvier comprends 25 cuves pour 12 hectares. La plus grosse fait 70 hectolitres, \u00e7a permet un travail intraparcellaire important, on peut ramasser avec une grande pr\u00e9cision de maturit\u00e9. On a beaucoup de petits lots et donc beaucoup plus de choix pour les assemblages. Le cabernet franc est toujours tr\u00e8s important pour nous. Les tr\u00e8s vieix sont vinifi\u00e9s s\u00e9par\u00e9ment, dans une cuve sph\u00e9rique en bois, \u00e7a conf\u00e8re un l\u00e9ger bois\u00e9 au d\u00e9marrage. Pour le nouveau mill\u00e9sime, on va travailler en partie en barriques neuves en partie en amphores pour pr\u00e9server toujours plus le fruit. On a \u00e9galement lanc\u00e9 un axe de d\u00e9veloppement en agroforesterie, on est pass\u00e9s de 200 m\u00e8tres de haies \u00e0 750, de 38 \u00e0 60 arbres, des arbustes, des fruitiers, on installe aussi trois ruches et quatre ch\u00e2teau \u00e0 insectes.
